Multi-purpose Hall Fundraising Project

Multi-purpose Hall contribution forms

Dear Fellow St. Mary's Alumnus,

Whether it's a class reunion, the ubiquitous Facebook or local Tokyo events like the St. Mary's Boys' Carnival, many of us St. Mary's Alumni Association members still manage to stay connected to the school. And some of us even gave "the gift that keeps on giving," sending our sons back to St. Mary's for a generational bond. This letter is about a new way to create a lasting bond to St. Mary's, its past and future alumni: through support of the new school buildings that are to be completed by 2011. Please have a look at the photos of the first phase of the "rebirth" of St. Mary's and the full artist's rendering of the new school.

The SMAA Board of Directors felt that the alumni could become a vital part of the new school legacy, and has been working with Brother Michel, Headmaster, to identify where we can provide fundraising help. One facility in particular stood out: the Multi-purpose Hall adjacent to the gym. This hall is a dedicated facility for performing arts, accommodating up to 448 retractable seats for theatrical productions, concerts, film screenings and many other types of live performance. The hall can also double as a gym/training space for sports such as wrestling. For the first time, students won't have to rely on the main basketball gym as the only available space for large assemblies, improving the school's overall event planning and scheduling.

To kick off this new SMAA support program, we have selected the retractable seating for the new Multi-purpose Hall as our first fundraising target. We hope this will be the start of an ongoing endowment program that will help alumni to individually and collectively support the campus facilities.

We are looking for contributions at all levels, from all SMAA members. Whether you are inclined to sponsor one or a number of seats yourself, or team up with other classmates to provide a group contribution, your support will be gratefully acknowledged. Of course, all donations are tax-deductible contributions in Japan and in the U.S.A., and the school will provide the necessary documentation. We are also studying the possibility of an online credit card donation system via the SMAA website.

We're grateful for your interest and participation in helping us to open a new chapter in alumni support for St. Mary's International School!
